Are you ready to take the B1 ACLES exam? We are sure that you are, since throughout the B1 course, you have studied the most important aspects which are required to pass the exam. You have also done lots of exercises, so you must be familiarised with it.
However, before you take it, we strongly recommend you to read this useful information about the exam. It is going to be very useful for you!

THE READING PAPER
- There are three exercises based on three different reading texts. Each exercise has 5 questions related to the texts.
- These texts are normally taken from online magazines and newspapers.
THE LISTENING PAPER
- There are two tasks.
- The first one has 10 questions.
- The second one has 5 questions.
- The candidate will listen to each recording twice.
THE WRITING PAPER
- There are two tasks.
- In the first one, the candidate will write a letter or email, a forum answer, etc., using between 100 and 130 words.
- In the second one, the candidate will choose between two options. This is very important! Some students don’t know this, and they write both options!
- One of these possible options is writing a formal letter or a similar text.
- The other possible option is more creative. The candidate will write about real or unreal events.
- In the second task, the candidate will write between 150 and 180 words.

THE SPEAKING PAPER
- There are three tasks.
- The first one is an interview with the examiners. They will ask the candidate some questions like: name and surname, where the candidate lives, works or studies, hobbies, etc.
- The second one is a monologue. The candidate will be given an information card with photographs and questions related to a topic. This part takes 3 minutes approximately (each candidate).
- The third task is a dialogue between both candidates. They will be given other cards with information and they will discuss about the topic suggested. This part takes between 5 and 6 minutes. If there are three candidates, then this part will take between 7:30 and 9 minutes.
- Each candidate will have 10 minutes to prepare parts two and three. They will be able to write a draft to guide their speech, but they won’t be able to write full texts or read them.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
- The candidate will pass this exam if the 60% of the exam is correct.
- The candidate must pass the four different skills with a minimum of 50% in order to calculate the final result.
